Susan G. Komen Foundation honored for its work

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world's biggest breast cancer organization, and is now ranked number one by GuideStar's Philanthropedia. The organization is chosen out of 73 non-profits by 46 experts from 25 non-profits, universities and businesses. The winner was choosen based on its impact research, awareness and outreach, as the Susan G. Komen Foundation has raised millions of dollars since its establisment.
"This is a tremendous recognition of the hard work that Komen staff, Affiliates and volunteers do every day to help women and end this disease," said Komen founder and CEO ambassador Nancy G. Brinker. "I know that every one of our employees, volunteers, donors and partners feels the tremendous pride I feel, knowing that our work is noticed and held in high regard."
According to the American Cancer Society, this disease is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women behind lung cancer. However, the death rate has been decreasing since 1990 due to advancements in research and breakthrough breast cancer news. There are currently 2.5 survivors in the U.S.
