Bikers from all over the country have been showing their support for pets at the annual HOGS for Dogs rally held at the Denney's Harley-Davidson in Springfield, Missouri.
This year, HOGS for Dogs accepted donations in support of the Castaway Animal Rescue
Effort in Springfield - a shelter that refuses to euthanize dogs under any circumstances and acts as a safe-haven for dogs and cats that were abused or about to be euthanized, News-Leader.com reports.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) says that about 3 to 4 million sheltered animals are euthanized every year, which is nearly half of the sheltered animal population.
Amanda Stehle, the founder of HOGS for Dogs, told the source that the rally raised more than $11,000 this year. The event featured a silent auction, and attendees were provided with lunch.
Shelters such as Castaway Animal Rescue Effort in Springfield, Missouri, are supported by the ongoing donations and effort of volunteers, and individuals who offer a home to animals, even if they can only provide temporary housing.
